ARE YOU INTERESTED IN TEACHING FOR CERRITOS COLLEGE COMMUNITY EDUCATION?

Cerritos College Community Education offers not-for-credit workshops, courses and programs; while they are for enrichment, learning and/or professional development, they do not yield any academic credit towards a degree.  We have two ways you might be able to teach for us:

TEACHING A NEW WORKSHOP / CLASS
Our typical workshops are short in duration, usually just part of one day to perhaps a couple of days.  While we do offer some longer running classes, the majority of our courses are short-term.  Also, the majority of our offerings are during the weeknights or weekends, as this is the time that the majority of the students can come.

One of the most important things our instructors bring to the classes they teach is real world knowledge in the subject they are teaching.  We require that instructors in our department be qualified / an expert in the subject matter they would be teaching; for example, if you want to teach a real estate workshop, you need to be a working Realtor in the industry.

Please note that the sale of products and/or services is strictly prohibited when teaching a course for our department.  If there are materials relevant to the class that a student will need to purchase, these must be approved by our department prior to the course being advertised/offered.

Our instructors are hired as independent contractors and receive 35% of the class registration fees collected.  After one year of teaching classes that are well received, the percentage increases to 40%.  Our class minimum is 5 students, although we will speak with an instructor and run a class with less than 5 students if it is feasible to do so.

Please take the time to review our current offerings (click here to see the list of current classes), and if you have a workshop or course you’d like to propose to teach that is not something we already offer, please click on the link below "submit a course proposal" and fill out the form.  Once submitted, our Program Facilitator will get back to you within one week.

TEACHING IN OUR SUMMER COLLEGE FOR YOUTH PROGRAM
Our College for Youth program is always looking for dynamic and qualified teachers to work in the summer.  We offer a not-for-credit  eight week, Monday through Friday summer College for Youth program, for kids and teenagers ages 6-18.  The program is broken up into two-week sessions, with a new set of class for the youth offered each two weeks.

All Community Education summer youth instructors teaching academic courses are credentialed K-12 teachers and hold a bachelor’s degree or higher in the subject matter they are teaching for us.  For enrichment type courses, teachers must have demonstrated expertise in the particular subject matter they are teaching.  Our summer youth teachers are hired as part-time hourly employees of the District.

To be considered for any openings this upcoming summer, you would need to submit your resume no later than February 1st.  Any resumes received after this date may be considered as a substitute for the upcoming summer and/or for teaching the following summer.

Email your resume to CommunityEd@Cerritos.edu.  Our program facilitator will follow up with you within one week.
